Question : Why do I require a sewing machine at home?

Question : What is a Zig-zag machine and how many models are available in the market?
Answer : In case of Zig-zag machines, there is zig-zag movement of the needle bar which gives an opportunity to give decorative patterns and a host of other features like embroidery, pilot, blend stitch, over edging, button holing, button stitching etc.

Question : What can a Zig -zag Machine do differently from a straight stitch machine I have at home?
Answer : In case of the Zig-zag machine you can get special sophisticated jobs like button holing, blind stitch (saree fall), triple stretch stitch, picot, circular stitching, zip fixing, quilting and over edging which are not possible on a normal straight stitch machine. With a straight stitch sewing machine only regular stitching of garments can be done.

Question :What is a triple stretch stitch?
Answer : Triple stitch is used to give extra strength to the garment, especially at tear-prone areas like shoulder joints of shirts and trouser seats.

Question : What is circular stitching?
Answer : This is a provision in the Usha built-in cam sewing machines, where one can remove the extension plate and do stitching / designing of circular cloth like round pillows, shirt sleeves or salwar pauncha in one go.

Question : Can I use more than one thread?
Answer : Of course, there is a provision in the Usha Zig-zag machines where a twin needle can be inserted. An extra spool pin is also provided in the accessory box to facilitate usage of two threads of different colours to make stitching attractive and decorative.

Question : Yes, I would like to upgrade from my straight stitch machine to a Usha Zig-zag machine. What should I do?
Answer : We have introduced a very attractive buy back scheme in which an old straight stitch machine may be brought to any of our counters. The shop managers or the dealer will evaluate the price depending on the age and condition of your sewing machine .You can therefore exchange your old machine with a new Zig-zag machine of any model.

Question : Are there any other facilities for purchase of Usha machine?
Answer : Yes, we have an attractive hire purchase (installment scheme). You can make a small down payment and become the proud owner of an Usha sewing machine. The rest of the money can be paid in easy installments as per your convenience.

Question : How will I get trained?
Answer : It is absolutely essential for a customer to get lessons on a Zig-zag machine. It is obligatory on the part of dealer of the company shop to explain operations of the zig-zag machine, so that the best use of the machine can be made by our valued customers.
This training may be imparted at the selling point or at your residence itself by our trained sales executives or sales girls. We are also running Usha sewing schools, where you can get advance training as per our syllabus.

Question : If the machine runs heavily, what do I do?
Answer :
- First you must oil your machine and loosen the belt in case it is a foot driven or a motorised machine.
- Release the winder lever.
Clean the shuttle race. (The system has been illustrated in the instruction manual provided with Usha sewing machine).
In the case of built-in cam Zig-zag machines, oiling is not required at all.
It is always suggested that after completion of a stitching job, clean the machine and keep it at a place which is dust free.

Question : If thread breaks again and again, what should I do?
Answer :
- Check the quality of thread. It could be knotty or of poor quality. If so, change the thread.
- Check the threaded area for any sharp edge at any point such as at the needle plate or needle hole etc.
- The bobbin may be getting jammed due to incorrect threading.
- Increase or lower the tension.

Question : In the case of needle breaking, what should I do?
Answer :
- Check the needle cam. It should not be loose.
- Use the correct number of the needle, which should match with the fabric or the garment being stitched
(as per the Usha Instruction Manual).
- Check insertion of the needle. The flat side of the needle should not face you.

Question : In case the cloth is not fed properly, that is it does not move properly, what should I do?
Answer :
- Set stitch regulator properly.
- Clean dust under needle plate near feed dog.
- Check presser foot. It should not be bent and must grip the cloth properly with the correct pressure.
